Emptied time capsules.

My old personal computer is getting formatted as I type this.

It’s been in a box since I moved, and had been off for months before that. It’s also the first Mac I ever owned. It might be the last personal laptop I ever buy, depending on how things go.

Don’t get attached to shit. You almost never need to. The things that mattered were backed up in the cloud, and the things that weren’t, well… Six months is so long for data that it might as well be forever.

In the same evening, I split the remains of my library in half, some to be given away, some to be cherished forever. The books sit in boxes, but I feel the whirring of my HD installing an outdated version of OSX over my old files is more poignant.

The books will go on. The ones and zeros are effectively gone forever.

I’ve been able to walk away, and leave a plastic brick in the place of years of history.

I’m convinced, in the moment, that the whirring is beautiful.
