terrible blog idea.
[i am posting this in hopes that someone other than me will start this, so i can avoid being strung up]
this came up at dinner a few weeks ago, but i would be delighted to see a blog called “The Dworkin School of Cultural Critique”.
the point of this, or course, would be to post songs, trailers, youtube clips, and posters, short fiction, etc, and explain how they are actually about rape.
not a good idea. but as dinner table conversation, it was funny. very, very funny. (i could seriously do R. Kelly songs/videos alone for six months)
(yes, i know the quote isn’t actually “all sex is rape” yes i know the circumstances of Andrea Dworkin’s life complicate interpretations, yes, i have actually read the source materials, but referring to the act of penetration as imperialism or colonialism does have some rape-y insinuations, no?)
(just because i know i will need to post this in the near future: in no way do my above statements indicate that i, or anyone else i know, think rape is funny. however, interpreting completely innocent, or even absurdly raunchy things, as being about rape, can be very funny. IMPORTANT DISTINCTION, internets.)
