not saying, just saying.
if you love someone’s boundary poking, mildly offensive, intentionally politically incorrect work or musings, and then freak out when they step on your toes instead of someone else’s, you are not ‘taking a stand’ and they likely did not ‘go too far’. they probably kept doing exactly what they’ve always done.
i’m as guilty of this as anyone, but here’s the short version - by reading, and laughing, and repeating, and reblogging, you have given these people consent to offend. you’ve encouraged them. and now that your personal cause or identity has become the subject of fun, you kinda need to remind yourself that it was funny before, and the only thing that changed is how personally you are associated with the subject matter.
while you can argue that doing the same thing and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity, i’d disagree. the single most infuriating thing you can do, and my own personal (non-scientific) definition of insanity is to passively tolerate or encourage behaviour for an extended period of time, and then instantly decide the same behaviour is unacceptable, and ‘make a stand’. unless you are willing to entirely disavow your previous actions, and you’ve had an epiphany, you are probably just better at laughing at others than at yourself.
