creating a social object
i think i’m going to make a simple social object - a pdf that takes all of the posts from this month (which was rather prolific) on brokengentleman.com, annotates them, decorates them, and generally expands / edits ideas that i would normally leave trapped in a certain time. the goal here is to create something worth passing on, and more importantly, to create a backstory around the broken...
dear life - get more interesting please.

this is a great example of the rambling i do about brand extension. every post on this blog expands the context of young meagher (and friends) as a brand, and gives the reader / consumer a greater sense of the idea and image that informs the decision. you can’t get involved in something without understanding it. and you can’t remain engaged without getting involved.
it’s dark and i’m running on battery power. somehow this is making the world a better place.
season 4 of BSG starts on friday. things could always be worse.

i’m looking at the possibility of drafting some people and heading into the video space for a project (only snippets, only as expanded context.) thinking about options, thinking about what those thoughts mean.

rogers is setting up a bandwidth cap.
this is severely screwed up, because, for my mid level account, that means 60 GB maximum transfer (download, and upload).
for clarity’s sake, in Jan my total was 115 GB.
FUCK ROGERS CABLE.
crowley.muxtape.com is updated.
dammit, i just got rickrolled for the first time.
it’s like the internet just personally touched me inappropriately.

aaaaand, more talking about muxtape.
luke pritchard of the kooks is younger than me. whenever i learn that someone i respect is younger than me, i feel as though i’ve wasted my life thus far. does this happen to anyone else?

this is overdue, and a good idea. but how the hell do they plan on enforcing it?
so, i bought a magazine with ashton kutcher on the cover. i’d be ashamed, but there’s a comic in the back by paul pope. equalization reached.

this whole muxtape thing is surprisingly swank. i’m already looking at it as a possible solution to the whole ‘hey jon, you should listen to this band’ and then i download an album of crap and get bitter. check out my muxtape, make your own, etc.

i’m fairly certain i would eat healthier if i could live somewhere with no access to junk food. i rarely crave it, and don’t miss it when it’s gone. it’s just so inescapably easy, when i’m feeling lazy.
it’s really depressing when you see someone do something stupid for no reason other than not caring.
trying a little experiment. if it goes well, or poorly, i’ll let you know.
hilarious hard drive detrius.
so, when i was first starting out in PR i decided i would write completely fake releases to practice. this was right around the time i saw this comic, which (obviously) was my source of inspiration for the following hilarious mess. [Faux RUXPIN Press Release.] Vivendi and director Gore Verbinski are teaming to re-launch and redesign the classic 80s children’s property, in next summer’s RUXPIN,...
is it just me? (spoilers)
or did joshua jackson do another movie, before shutter, where he pretends to be the victim of some terrible psycho bitch, but in actuality is hiding rape-y behaviours? something about rumours? i dunno. is pacey just generally rape-y in appearance? why does he keep getting cast for this shit? shutter fucking sucked, but i had fun because alex was there.
the paint is chipping off my frames. tiny glinting bits of silver marring the tarnished faux bronze finish (that was the attraction). my eyes are getting worse, the glasses less effective. i cannot find the screwdriver that tightens the (ever stripped) screws that hold the lenses in place.
it would be nice to get new glasses. it would be nice to have options.
cameraphone blurriness isn’t kind, but it’s interesting.
yay for cool people.
btrsweet: instant mark = at-home-nudist. my friends always seem to know more interesting people than i do.
i really need new glasses.
the squinting gets to me.

winds of change.
So, while listening to CBC’s Search Engine, I had a great 2 minutes of new information.
1) Cory Doctorow shares a great bit about how collecting dangerous personal information is the problem, because protecting it is impossible, and
2) the CBC is doing a pilot project with hi-def TV downloads. The CBC charter apparently mandates that canadians have access to CBC programming in the easiest...
this is becoming a trend.
i really need to stop tumbling about obama.
because it needs to be said.
there’s a general concensus (and not only coming from my girlfriend) that barack obama is an excellent speaker, but that doesn’t necessarily make him a good president. i linked a post about 30 seconds before i wrote this one and the point is the same, but i had a thought yesterday as i was walking north on spadina - the issue isn’t how well he says things, it’s that he...

– DRUDGE REPORT FLASH 2008® from obama’s speech today - as a canadian, i find it depressing that americans seem to think no other nation in the world has a history that makes it possible for people from different races and creeds to be upwardly mobile. we were kinda the first nation on earth to...
Call me a sucker...
alexbalk: but I think the Obama speech is pretty great. Granted, I haven’t heard the delivery yet. (EDIT, i’m referring to my girlfriend alex, not the person who wrote this. i guess i assumed the gender difference and the completely unrelated stance represented in my comments made that clear, but upon reflection it’s really bloody confusing.) alex doesn’t consider barack...
how to write like me:
start with a polemic. end with a pronouncement framed as though it is groundbreaking. small points and example, all examining different aspects of the same damn issue. use many, many commas. sentences are allowed to be brutally short, if it makes the point clearer. assume that people will care about your ideas, and unabashedly write about them, not avoiding personal pronouns. get obsessive...
