red lobster
i am not normally a huge fan of chain restaurants, but damn… those cheddar biscuits are easily as delicious as any bread-product i have ever had. to reiterate - i ate a dinner consisting of steak, shrimp, lobster, mashed potatoes, and asparagus. AND I AM TALKING ABOUT THE FREE GODDAMN BISCUITS. those are the best biscuits ever. better than popeyes, better than grandma’s. so good.

“Marketers spend a billion dollars a year targeting influentials. Duncan Watts says they’re wasting their money.” This has been tearing up the blogodrome for a day or two. everyone seems focused on whether or not influencers are still valid as the main target, instead of looking at the interesting part - the role of influence in relation to mass market advertising, and how...
jon is full of win.
call, email, or message for details. but it looks like i’ve done it.
Vancouver?
deepr: Never really thought about it, but this studio came to our lecture this morning, they’re based in Vancouver. Apparently they’re always looking for board artists as “they are really hard to find”, so I have a review with them at 4:45. Hm. R. Brava. Good luck. Here’s hoping everything comes together, and we all abandon singha here in Toronto.
busy day.
but then again, they all are.
my addiction to mediocre tv continues with Kyle XY. i guess i should start downloading a new addiction for when i run out of episodes.
divx’s stage 6 site makes any other video streaming site look embarrassingly low-res.
tumbling from deep’s work type room.
woot.
still in the game.
that is all.
holy shit control is an amazing movie. (this may be influenced by loving joy division so much.)
The Pirate’s Dilemma a short video breakdown of a great book. burned through it in a few days, it provides a comprehensive, but not boring, background on the history of copyright violation in relation to modern arts. that, and a solid point about how business should deal with piracy (hint, it ain’t lawsuits.)
big day tomorrow.
important phone call, doctor’s appointment, and possibly getting my passport photos taken. i’ve decided that i’m only going to follow people on tumblr who i actually know in some capacity, or care about. further, i’m going to remind myself, regularly, that part of maintaining a beneficial persona is limiting ones actions online. ie, some shit is best said in private. this...
nerdiness.
i’ve been acting in a distinctly artificial pattern - i’ve been planning my personal time based on the finished product of ‘life’ that i want to present. meaning, i read a book because i find it interesting, but also because when someone asks ‘what are you reading these days’ i’m responding with something beneficial. i’m teaching myself certain...
Denton Chat
me: Nick.
me: pretend you're not talking to the world's slowest retard
Nick Denton: sure
me: none of them are real?
Nick Denton: no
Nick Denton: there are three or four real ones
Nick Denton: collegecallgirl is one
me: and the rest are interns.
Nick Denton: yeah
me: the commenters on gawker are employees of gawker media.
Nick Denton: not employees
Nick Denton: interns
me: pretending to be anonymous web jerks
me: you know that I'm going to post this conversation
Nick Denton: sure
me: and you don't care because...
me: ...because it doesn't matter.
Nick Denton: good night
kudos.
tumblr handles service interruptions really, really well.

wow.
even if nothing comes from this, it shows me my ideas have at least enough merit to catch the attention of the people i respect. i am smiling like an idiot right now.
dear people.
scrabulous is ruining my life. how is it in real life, i never get my ass beat so bad at scrabble. 2 bingos in one game. 2! randeep, i will never forgive you.

long talk with the parents
-about how my community really needs to, without forgetting, find a way to move past the past, and stop looking at slavery and it’s lingering effects as the cause for everything. we can’t legislate equality. we can’t protest the world into equality. and we really, really can’t teach youth to use it as an excuse to fall short, give up, or succumb. when i was young, my...

things that are awesome - amber macarthur (formerly of cityTV’s webnation) talking about just how unsustainable old media is. money quote ‘do you think citizen journalists can be trusted?’ ‘who says mainstream news organizations can be trusted?’ go forth and destroy, amber mac. i won’t even comment on the fact you’re now working for tony robbins.
party = win.
just how i like gatherings. people trickled in and out, chatted, switched chatting groups, drank (even DEEP!) hugged, reconnected, connected, planned, etc. many thanks to everyone who came. win!

on music.
i must say that i think i generally prefer a great EP to a great album. mostly because 5-6 songs is perfect to make sure i get through it in one sitting. as music has shifted from a discrete experience, to an additive experience, albums are less likely to get listened to in one sitting. this is something that artists have flipped out over - and it makes sense; itunes singles make the individual...

random idea of the day.
my new idea for a product? Apple should release an oversize trackpad, with bluetooth connectivity, and multitouch capabilites. Mostly because this is the only thing about the Macbook Air that actually excites me, and I would wager it’s the same thing for most mac users, whether desktop or notebook affiliated. multitouch is the only recent innovation from Apple that i find irresistible. ...
correction - my parents are remarkably wonderful people.
sea change expected.
i’m not going to explain why, but i am currently awaiting a trademark shift in attitude from my parents. currently they are accepting and sympathetic, but it’s entirely possible that they will be enraged by the next time i speak to them. that’s just something that happens. time to mull things over makes people less reasonable, sometimes.

a nice little post that makes a clear point - any conference or convention, for a sufficiently popular product or niche, sucks unless you have a press pass, and usually sucks (as an experience) even then.
Crackbook Air
when did this addiction to Apple start? possibly when i was a kid and my neighbor showed me his Macintosh that could play games and was figgen small….. — scubed to be honest, i’m most interested in the new time capsule, and (if they ever bring the full service to canada) the new appletv. also, mail on the ipod touch. still gonna wait for 2nd gen.

Trent disappoints me, after impressing me so many... →
Trent Reznor is pissed that only 20% of people were willing to pay for the Saul Williams album he produced. He’s forgetting that 1) Saul Williams, though insanely talented, is not a hugely popular artist, and 2) that Saul and Trent most likely still cleared more money than they would have with a standard label deal. probably by a factor of 2, bare minimum.
assorted things i would like / need to do.
-learn basic, and not so basic web design. part of wanting to create things is the ability to do it on your own. i have too many ideas trapped in the concept stage because i can’t even make a messy but demonstrative version. -read a book (preferably 2) every week. it’s sad that i have to try to make myself do this, but i just haven’t been able to find the time. therefore,...
